Police Logs: Thefts in White Horse Commons

10:30 p.m.: A burglary was reported on Thursday, June 28 at a Grove Place residence in the White Horse Commons. The 42-year-old resident said she entered her unlocked home which was locked when she left for work and discovered the screen in the study was pushed in with the window slightly ajar, according to the report. She also told the officers the jewelry from her jewelry box was missing. A print, which appeared to be from a gloved finger, was on the top of the box.

The inspector reported pry marks on French doors in the rear, but everything else appeared to be in order. This unit is the last one in the complex on a dead end, and the window faces the woods.

Among the items reported missing include: a silver watch valued at $1,356, diamond solitaire earrings valued at $1,000, platinum diamond ring valued at $595, gold diamond earrings valued at $1,800 and gold earrings valued at $600.

A neighbor was interviewed on Monday, July 2 regarding the breaking and entering. The neighbor said she noticed a gray sedan on June 28 with a male in his 20s park neat the townhouse. She said she hadn’t seen the man or the car before. She also told the officer he was only there for approximately 10 minutes before leaving the complex.

The 42-year-old woman also reported along with her home being burglarized, her wallet was stolen at a café in Boston a month earlier. The officer told her the thefts might be related.

12:11 p.m.: A Winchester resident reported a stolen license plate from Illinois in 2003. The 34 year old told the officer he left his car at a repair shop in Chicago after an employee told him it couldn’t be fixed after it broke down. He has since received violations from the Illinois RMV in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012. He disputed the first fine explaining the situation. He recently received a letter from a collection agency stating he owed $932 for unpaid traffic violations. The RMV showed him photos of his license plate and old vehicle when it was captured running red lights. The officer advised him to contact the Chicago Police Department and Illinois RMV.

6:56 p.m.: The Snack Shack at had an attempted break in, according to reports. Someone attempted to lift the steel door with a metal sign post wedged under it. The door only lifted approximately 8 inches. No other damage was reported.
