Police Logs: Political Signs Vandalized

Friday, Aug. 17

8:19 a.m.: Two political yard signs were vandalized on a home on Stevens Street. A support for U.S. Rep. Scott Brown was twisted and folded, and a support for State Rep. candidate George Georgountzos sign was ripped off the metal stand and missing, according to reports. The officer said he was unsure if the act was mischief or someone disagreeing with the signs.

11:55 a.m.: A officer killed a raccoon that was deemed sick by an Animal Control officer. The raccoon was in the backyard of a Thornberry Road home. The animal was shot in the head and removed from the property.

4:06 p.m.: A 2004 Chevy struck a 2009 Buick when it failed to stop at a stop sign at the corner of Johnson Road and Ridge Street. The Buick was struck on its passenger side quarter panel and minor damage was reported.

Saturday, Aug. 18

1:29 a.m.: A security guard reported assault from a patient. The security guard told the officer he was struck in the eye while sitting in the isolation patient watch room for a Melrose man. The 43-year-old man was checked into the E.R. for unknown reasons, but other security guards said it was alcohol related, according to the report. The Melrose man was brought to the hospital from either Stoneham Police or Stoneham Fire. The man said the security guard verbally threatened him. Both were advised of their rights to file charges at the Woburn District Court and should speak to their advisors on how to move forward.
