Lexington Man Dies in Motorcycle Accident Near Winchester

Authorities are investigating the Aug. 2 motorcycle accident near Winchester that claimed the life of East Lexington's William Cataldo.

Authorities have identified William R. Cataldo Jr., 56, of East Lexington, as the motorcyclist who died in , near the intersection of Winchester Drive and Russell Road.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident, which, according to an incident report, involved Cataldo’s Harley Davidson and a sedan. The Massachusetts State Police’s accident reconstruction team is also a part of the investigation, but is no longer active on the scene of the accident.

An investigation is standard procedure following a fatal accident involving more than one vehicle, according to Stephanie Guyotte, a spokeswoman for the Middlesex DA’s office.

A standard investigation will look to determine what caused the crash and whether any criminal charges are appropriate, Guyotte said in an email, adding that she cannot comment on specifics of the investigation at this time.

According to the initial police report, at 6:59 p.m. last Thursday, Aug. 2, LPD responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle and a sedan. The motorcyclist, later identified as Cataldo, was transported by the Winchester Fire Department to Mass General, where he later died from his injuries.

Visiting hours for Caltado are scheduled to be held from 5 to 8 this evening at Douglass Funeral Home, located at 51 Wrothen Road, Lexington, according to an obituary posted at legacy.com.
