Police: Silver Sedan Crashes into Parked Car in Winchester

At about 1:15 a.m. Aug. 6, Winchester police responded to the area of Highland Avenue and Cliff Street for a report of a hit-and-run, according to a police report. The caller reported that a silver sedan with an unknown make, model and plate number had crashed into a legally parked car on Cliff Street.

The sedan, which sustained heavy front-end damage, continued on, taking a right turn onto Highland Avenue in the direction of Winchester Hospital, according to the report. Two officers patrolling the area near the Stoneham-Winchester line could not locate the suspect vehicle, according to the report.

The victim's vehicle, a 2007 Mazda Miata, sustained damage to the front bumper, driver's side headlight and was leaking fluids, according to the report. A Winchester couple that lived in the neighborhood reported the accident after hearing a loud bang and looking out the window to see a silver sedan that had heavy front-end damage, according to the report. They also saw the sedan turn right into Highland Avenue, the report notes.

Police later spoke with the owner of the Miata who did not witness or hear the crash, according to the report. The car's owner was able to get it off the road and into his driveway, according to the report. Police advised the owner to contact their insurance company, the report adds.
After speaking with witnesses and observing the scene, police believe the driver of the sedan was traveling on Cliff Street from the dead end side of the street at a high rate of speed and struck the Miata so hard that it pushed the car roughly 20 to 25 feet from where it was parked, according to the report. No skid marks were found at the scene, and the patrolman planned to search the area again for the sedan prior to his shift ending, the report adds.
