According to White, for the time-being, residents can still go into the police station and they will be escorted to the back of the building, where the trailers are located. But as the project goes on, White said that one of the improvements will require removing the stairwell leading upstairs, at which time, residents will no longer be allowed inside the building.

“We’re going to make sure everything’s working properly before we leave,” White said. “The shift commander will still be in the community room, and residents who come in can either have their question answered or be sent to the back. There will always be a presence in the building.”

The renovation of the public safety building is expected to last 12 months, but according to White, the police station should be done in four months, with the fire station taking the remaining eight months.
