Sheriff Koutoujian Introduces Senior Citizen Program

The TRIAD program focuses on empowering senior citizens to recognize fraudulent behavior.

Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian visited Winchester on Wednesday to meet with seniors at the where he spoke about the role of the Sheriff in the community, including his responsibility for the care and custody of inmates. 

The sheriff spoke about educational and vocational programs put in place at the Middlesex House of Correction that provide inmates with opportunities to better themselves and learn skills that can help them be productive members of society following their release. 

Koutoujian also discussed the Community Work Program which allows minimum security inmates who pass a rigorous screening process the opportunity to participate in community works projects in cities and towns across the county. Inmates paint, clear brush and clean graffiti on public property at no cost to taxpayers.

In addition, Koutoujian told participants about a new effort his office has launched to help protect seniors. The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office TRIAD program is a partnership between local law enforcement and Councils on Aging.

The sheriff met with Ruth Young of the  and Town Manager Richard Howard to discuss the program that focuses on empowering senior citizens to recognize fraudulent behavior. With this program, senior citizens could attend educational events and receive tips and resources on how to stay safe and avoid being the object of criminal behavior.
