Winchester Woman Accused of Reckless Driving

Winchester Woman Accused of Reckless Driving

At 7 p.m. July 1, Winchester police called to Main Street for several reports of an hit-and-run accident causing property damage, according to a police report.

A woman driving a car allegedly hit a curb at the rotary, then headed north on Main Street before crossing into the southbound lane and nearly hit an oncoming white SUV, according to the report. The woman was reportedly speeding in the area, jumped the curb again and ran over a sign on the sidewalk.

A witness reported seeing pieces of the vehicle in the roadway and she honked her horn, trying to get the woman to pull over, according to the report. Police found several pieces of vehicle strewn about the roadway, a black bag with three empty Sutter Home wine bottles and also a knocked over DPW sign, according to the report.

Police later found the woman allegedly involved in the hit-and-run incident, and they described her in the report as having watery eyes, slightly unsteady on her feet and two officers claimed they smelled an alcoholic beverage on her breath and her speech was slow and slurred. The 57-year-old Winchester woman was given criminal citations for marked lanes violation, operating to endanger and leaving the scene of property damage, according to the report. DPW could later be seen clearing the roadway of debris, the report adds.

June 28

8 p.m.: Police called to Everett Avenue for a report of minor damage to a motor vehicle, according to a police report. The caller claimed that a landscaping company working near his vehicle left a light scratch on it, according to the report. The man asked police for assistance in getting the landscaper information for him so he could see if they would be willing to pay for the repair, the report adds. 

June 29

6:15 p.m.: Police responded to the intersection of Wedgemere Avenue and Wildwood Street on a report of a motor vehicle accident, according to a police report. A Ford F250 was traveling north on Wedgemere failed to see a stop sign, proceeded through the intersection and struck another vehicle, a Honda Accord, according to the report. The driver and passenger in the Honda suffered minor injuries and were taken to Lahey Clinic in Burlington, the report adds. The Honda was towed from the scene, and a 49-year-old Lexington man was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign, according to the report.

8:08 p.m.: Police called to the rear parking lot of the Winchester High School for a report of vehicle vandalism, according to a police report. The responding officer discovered that the driver's side window of the 2010 Ford WinCAM van had been smashed, according to the report. A small rock was found on the front floorboard of the van, the report adds. WinCAM was later contacted by Bonnell Ford and an employee moved the vehicle to a safer location until the window could be repaired, according to the report.

July 1

1:36 p.m.: A Winchester woman visited the police station to report an accident at the intersection of Skillings Road and Washington Street that took place 20 minutes prior to her visit, according to a police report. The woman told police that the man rear-ended her vehicle while she was stopped at a red light, and she claims the man said he was really tired, according to the report. The woman told the man to go straight home, and then she went to the police station to file the report. After completing a records check, police learned that the man had a suspended license, as well as three outstanding warrants, according to the report. The 64-year-old Woburn man was expected to be issued a criminal citation for operating a vehicle after suspension.

3:21 p.m.: A teen visited the police station to report his bicycle had been stolen while left unchained at a bike rack at Manchester Field on Mystic Valley Parkway, according to a police report. The stolen bike was described as a black and red Subrosa, which went missing sometime between 9 a.m. an 3 p.m. on June 29.

4:50 p.m.: Police responded to the intersection of Bacon and Church Streets for a report of an accident, according to a police report. A driver failed to yield right-of-way while turning left from Bacon onto Church, thereby causing the crash, according to the report. One vehicle was towed, and no transports reported. The driver that reportedly failed to yield was cited.

July 2

5:50 p.m.: Police called to the intersection of Middlesex and Lake Streets for a report of a two-vehicle accident, according to a police report. No tows or transports reported.
