Winchester Fire Department Responds to Thanksgiving Day Fire

There was a basement fire at a Grant Road residence.

While most families were getting ready for Thanksgiving dinner, one Grant Road couple had the at their door.

The Winchester Fire Department arrived at 12 Grant Road to extinguish a fire.

According to the fire report, firefighters were called to the home on Thursday, Nov. 24 at 1:11 p.m. According to Winchester Police, upon arrival, there was “smoke billowing out of the front door.”

According to the WFD, the fire began in a finished basement and then extended to the first floor. The fire moved to the first floor as the laundry shute caught fire, but it was mostly contained to the basement and one of the bathrooms, the report said.

The two residents of the home were outside. There no injuries reported.

According to the police report, the fire department tore the ceiling and walls apart of the basement and hosed them down.

“The entire basement had heavy water damage as a result, and approximately 75 percent of the basement was burnt,” the police report said.

The cause of the fire is unknown, as is the cost of the damage.
