Winchester Firefighters Graduate From Academy

Firefighters Patrick Warren, Thomas Surette, Mark Ricci and Joseph Marashio graduated from the Massachusetts Fire Academy.

Chief John Nash of the announced the graduation of Firefighters Patrick Warren, Thomas Surette, Mark Ricci and Joseph Marashio from the Massachusetts Fire Academy.

According to Nash, this rigorous professional training provides Winchester’s newest firefighters with the basic skills to effectively and safely perform their jobs. The 12-week training is provided by the Massachusetts Fire Academy in Stow.

Students receive classroom training in all basic firefighting skills. They practice first under non-fire conditions and then during controlled fire conditions. To graduate, students must demonstrate proficiency in life safety, search and rescue, ladder operations, water supply, pump operations, and fire attack.

Firefighter Patrick Warren was also the recipient of the Richard N. Bangs Award.

The award recognizes his outstanding academic and physical performance during recruit training. Warren was the top performer among the class of 72 recruits.

 Firefighters Warren, Surette, Ricci, and Marashio are certified to the level of Firefighter I and II by the Massachusetts Fire Training Council and were previously certified as Paramedics, trained to the Advanced Life Support level.

They have received assignment to the Winchester Fire Department and will continue their training while performing firefighting and ambulance duties, serving the residents of Winchester.
