Winchester Home Break-Ins Continue Through the Weekend

Another three homes were broken into last week.

The string of home break-ins around Winchester continued this past weekend as three more homes were vandalized.

Homes on Yale Street and Fells Road were broken into on Thursday, July 28, while another home along Main Street was broken into on Friday, July 29. All three residents told police that they believed their home was entered into during the day.

The burglar entered the homes by breaking a window in the back of the houses.

At the Yale Street home, the perpetrator attempted to break in, but after prying open the screen to the window they left. Winchester Police believe that a motion light may have turned on, scaring the perpetrator away.

And last month, warned residents

According to Lieutenant Peter MacDonnell, it does not appear as though these break-ins are connected.

“There’s not enough information to conclude if it is or is not the same people that broke into those homes,” MacDonnell said.

Jewelry, a laptop and a pocket watch valued at $10,000 were some of the items stolen from the homes last week.

A Stowell Road resident informed police that he observed a white panel work van driving slowly on Stowell Road. The witness said he saw a dark-skinned, possibly Hispanic male driving the van.

MacDonnell suggested residents should be more mindful of suspicious people in the neighborhood.

“People need to take a little responsibility for their own neighborhood,” MacDonnell said. “They need to pay attention of who’s coming and going in their neighborhood. If they see people who they’re unfamiliar with, don’t be afraid to call the police.

“Get their description and call the police. Whatever they do, they should not confront the person.”
