Wounded MBTA Officer to Be Released from Hospital Friday

Winchester native and injured MBTA Officer Richard Donohue Jr. will be released from the hospital on Friday, according to his Facebook page.

Donohue, 33, of Woburn, will be leaving Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Charlestown, where he has been recovering after being shot in the leg during a shoot-out with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects in Watertown in late April, according to a message posted on the Facebook page by Kim Donohue, Richard's wife.

"(Friday) will be Dic's final day at Spaulding, before he returns home," she wrote. "This is a very bittersweet moment as he is excited to return to his own house and be with his son and dog, but yet he is still in a varied amount of pain and dealing with recovery. The road is long but this is the final intersection and we are confident he will gain strength with every day that passes while at home.

Kim continued, thanking first responders in Watertown and also emergency room doctors and nurses at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge.

"In every way possible all involved parties bought my husband back to life," she wrote. "As much as I love the hospital staff I never want to have to make that drive to a Cambridge hospital ever again...nor do I ever want hear that freakin' Justin Timberlake song 'Mirrors' again. Thank you for your endless support and I am happy to finally report, my husband is coming home!"
