Middlesex Sheriff Peter Koutoujian will be in Washington, D.C. Tuesday to attend a White House press conference on President Obama’s gun violence prevention legislation, according to a press statement.

Vice President Joseph Biden and Attorney General Eric Holder, along with law enforcement officials from across the country, will call on Congress to pass common-sense measures to reduce gun violence, according to the statement.

“I am honored to have been asked to join my colleagues from across the country to stand in unison with Vice President Biden in calling on Congress to enact common-sense gun violence prevention measures,” Koutoujian said in the statement. “It is time for the productive, respectful dialogue that has taken place at community forums across Massachusetts and the country to move to the floor of the United States Senate and for our elected representatives to stand and be counted.”
