Letter to the Editor: Illegal Means Illegal

The following letter was submitted by Gerry Dembrowski, who is running for Congress next year.

It was a warm, humid August evening. In the distance, a thunderous roar as I stood by Main Street in Milford. Police motorcycles with blazing lights escorted one of the most impressive processions of motorcycles I had ever seen. I could feel the grief in the procession as the motors screamed in anguish for the loss of a friend. That night was like no other. It left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of over 2000 people who had gathered at dusk to mark the tragic death of 23-year-old Matthew Denice.

Although I never knew Matthew, loss of life- especially young and vibrant, is devastating. My thoughts and prayers are with his family because for them, life will never be the same. When a friend, family member, or spouse is taken from us it’s a life changing moment. Sometimes their taken by disease, sometimes by accident, but always leaving grieving hearts, longing for their return. Life, from the unborn to the elderly, is precious. But when a life full of promise is taken by preventable circumstances, the heartache is all consuming. Matthew's murder was preventable, and ultimately a result of political advancement.

If you or I harbored or offered aid to the person who killed another, we would be an accessory to the crime and would be charged with manslaughter. Because it’s an illegal alien who did this, Governor Patrick will give sanctuary to a murderer. Thank God for Lew Evangelidis who recognized the injustice, and enlisted Worcester County into Secure Communities.

Just two days after Matthew Denice's murder another illegal alien Onyango Obama was arrested for DUI in Framingham. Yes he’s related, a long lost uncle to President Obama, and he has an outstanding warrant for deportation by the US Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Why are illegal aliens gravitating to Massachusetts? Because the liberals say “technically, it's not illegal to be illegal in Massachusetts.” The federal level also resonates this sentiment, with the senate pushing the DREAM Act, giving amnesty to illegal aliens. In an internal U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service memo President Obama discussed ways to bring about “meaningful immigration reform absent legislative action,” without a Congressional vote.

Under our existing federal immigration laws illegal or 'undocumented' aliens are breaking the law. Amnesty to reward illegal behavior should never occur and anchor babies should not be allowed. Politicians continue to manipulate the law and prevent its enforcement. Until the existing law is enforced, illegal aliens will ravage our society and be rewarded by a duplicitous political agenda. We will continue to be haunted by “…it is not illegal to be illegal in Mass” until you take action to do something to change it!

This type of mud-slinging, xenophobic, hysteria-inducing article will do little to further your political aspirations. I would like nothing better than to see Markey defeated. For over 20 years I have either voted against him or abstained from voting. If, however, Dr. Dembrowski is the best alternative, that is pathetic.

I am a supporter of Secure Communities but the tone of this letter really disturbs me. I have said this before, but I'll say it again. Where are all the thoughtful Republicans with public-service experience who can run credible campaigns? Please, someone who is not a joke, step up and run!
John Kennedy September 08, 2011 at 01:44 AM
Donna and BAV please get a hold of yourself and your ridiculous political correctness. If it was your child or mother or sibling who was a victim you would not be talking about "tone or alternatives". There are currently laws on the books concerning immigration and the federal government continues to ignore them at a great cost to states. We really need someone to step up and take on this issue now before it is to late.

Jeff Perry makes the same point as Dembrowski in a much less hysterical manner.

Many of the laws created in this country were made when times were very different. Technology was different, crime was very different, society was different and so on, but what almost everything comes down to in our world is population which at the time of our constitution was 800 million. We need to realize the more people this country has the harder it becomes to handle. My point is we need our population spread out and not all in one place. If we had money I would say invest in the countries people are emigrating so they don't have to leave. You cannot deny that many of the people who immigrate here are into the business of crime. This has been portrayed in the media for years, you see this in many gangster type movies. Many of the people moving here from Latin America are into the life of crime (look at all the gangs that are out there) Also the shooting in Woburn appears to have been caused by people from Latin America. On another note, I feel the world as a whole has to figure out something about our population, if not we are going to eat up our resources very soon.

John - The argument that I would care more if it were my mother or child who was a victim is specious. Of course _I_ would care more. Similarly if my mother or daughter died in a tragic blimp accident _I_ would think that blimp safety was the most important and pressing issue facing the US. My personal tragedy does not raise the importance of an issue. And playing off that tragedy is mere grandstanding. A reasoned piece could have pointed out the true costs (and benefits) on a macro scale of illegal immigration. I would tend to come down as a supporter of tighter immigration controls. This piece was garbage meant to inflame people, not educate. Finally I would add that there are plenty of laws on the books that are not enforced, often with even more serious effects. Driving down highway most cars are travelling 75+, depsite the posted limit of 65. Tens of thousands die every year due to excessive speed. Billions are lost to lost productivity, insurance claims, emergency workers, road repairs. And the states could easily enact tighter enforcement of these existing laws. Our elected officials (and would be elected officials) pick and choose what to be outraged at and what to ignore.

BAV the paralell you draw is childish at best. You can't drive past the tennis courts without seeing a police officer or park illegally downtown without fear of getting a ticket. Trafiic laws are enforced, maybe not 100% of the time but the law enforcement community does its best. I believe Dr. Dembroski's point is that there are elected offical (Mayor Menino, Attorney General Coakley), sanctuary cities Cambridge, Somervillle and even the Governor of MA telling people it is okay for illegals to be here, turn a blind eye and let them go, give them have in state tuition, health benefits and welfare payments. We have reached a breaking point and there are not enough resources to go around for the people who are truly entitled to them and have funded them through taxes over the years. Enough is enough. If you truly believed in tighter enforcement and border security after criticizing Dembrowski you might have made of couple of points to back up your supposed point of view,

Pending redistricting, businessman Jeff Semon (R-Lexington) will be running against Ed Markey in MA-07. Check out his website at http://www.Jeffin2012.com ...I know Jeff well--he's a bright guy with creative solutions--and I expect that he'll be making a formal announcement in mid-October.

"BAV the paralell you draw is childish at best. " Why the insult? Please don't stoop to the level of this letter to the editor. My example was merely an aside, and you have not debated my main point that grandstanding this horrible accident was low. However, since you prefer my example, speed limits are enforced maybe 5 % of the time, probably much less. Next time you travel on the highway, set the cruise control to 65 (or whatever the speed limit is) and tell me what percent of cars travel faster than you. You might need several people to help you count, as the numbers will get very high very fast. Then, tell me how many stopped / ticketed cars you see. You think that ration will be near 100%? Ridiculous! I have witnessed horrendous accidents due to excess speed. My point was that people turn a blind eye to this far more serious and expensive issue...because it doesn't win votes! It doesn't energize the far right. Yet speeding is completely enforceable and bringing it under control would save lives and money. Add a couple of zeros on to the end of every ticket, and no one would speed. The few that did would stick out like sore thumbs. Anyway, I believe Dr Dembrowski's point actually was "If I can get enough people to think that Obama and Patrick are guilty of murder by association, maybe I'll get elected." It was low, slimy politics. I find it hard to believe that anyone can support such a tactic.

Thanks John.

How's this for grandstanding....Ten years after 9-11 the countrys' doors are open wider than ever. The President of the United States has thrown open the floodgates to curry favor with the entire world and allow anyone who can draw a breath into the United States. We were safer BEFORE 9-11. George Bush also guilty of bringing in more muslims than ever in our history which creates even more chance of Islamic terrorists to attack the US. Most Americans are blissfully unaware of the danger we face daily due to lax law enforcement and traitorous politicians who deliberately ignore reality. Another police officer shot in Woburn- was the perp an illegal?. Meanwhile Uncle Omar gets a let out of jail card FREE and the public be damned about why he is exempt from the law.Holder attacks those states that attempt to enforce the law and represents foreigners over American citizens. Oh and he also arms cartels in Mexico that have cost thousands of lives including a member of our own Border Patrol. It is no wonder that there are those that suspect a conspiracy about 9-11, as the country has fallen so far since then pretty soon you will not recognize it. If you do NOT get it you will soon.

You should run for Congress!!!! ;)

Thank you so much Dr. Gerry for speaking about yet another horror occurring right in our front yard. My sincerest condolences to the Denice family, whose son was brutally murdered by another illegal alien. By now, the number of Americans lost to illegal aliens is probably close to the loss of our friends on 911 or the number of courageous soldiers in battle fighting for our country following 911. Regular Americans of all stripes are being killed in an undeclared war against us. The media and the PC politicians, RINO Republicans included, continue to ignore the facts and refuse to uphold the laws. Governor Patrick has blood on his hands for the loss of another, truly promising young American life. Decades ago we read about such routine murders in foreign lands, and Americans felt compelled to sympathize and even send money. Today the horrors occur on our very own doorsteps. What’s even more horrifying is that the public is asleep and therefore so are the politicians. Time for us to wake up. Thanks again Dr. Gerry for standing up and talking the truth, while the politicians and hacks are either on the sidelines or standing in the way.

Semon needs to get local government experience first. He should run for School board or for other local office. I heard he has a few bullet points. But understanding moonbats and enacting laws is different than restructuring companies and placating corporate execs.
Paul Short September 10, 2011 at 04:59 PM
Donna, your "support" of Se cure C ommun ities is called into question if you are "disturb"ed by the mere "tone" of the facts in this letter. You should visit the 1/4 mile long bl ood and skid mar ks in Milford if you want to be disturbed.
