Low Voter Turn Out In Annual Town Election

Stump wins only contested race on the ballot.

 

Bridget A. Stump won a seat on the Board of Health in the only contested race in yesterdays Annual Town Elections with a total of 402 votes. Michael Fiorelli came in second place with 355 votes and Linda Letteri came in third with 349 votes. 

The Board of Selectmen had two open seats in which both candidates ran unopposed. Selectman chair Forest Fontana was unchallenged and Jennifer Wilson will take over for Roger Berman, who is retiring. In the School Committee race, chairman Chris Linskey ran unopposed, while  took over for , who decided not to run for reelection.

Voter turn out was fairly low as 1,348 of the 13,943 registered voters cast their ballot. That is 9.6 percent of the registered voters in the town. As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, only 768 ballots were cast, representing 5.5 percent of the town’s registered voters.

Three vacancies remain for Town Meeting Members in Precinct 1, three vacancies in Precinct 2, two vacancies in Precinct 4, one vacancy in Precinct 5, six vacancies in Precinct 6, one vacancy for a two-year term in Precinct 7 and three vacancies in Precinct 8. Precinct 3 was the only precinct with competition for Town Meeting Members in which 28 people ran for the 24 person seats.
