Peter Blute Headlines WRTC Meeting

The Winchester Republican Town Committee is accepting memberships on an associate level. Contact information for joining the committee is included below.

The Winchester Republican Town Committee held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 21. This year they welcomed a new slate of officers with Carmen Kenrich, chairperson; Franca Richard, vice chairperson; Dan Nakimoto, secretary; and Coley Coleman, treasurer. The officers will serve a two year term.

The guest speaker for the evening was former Congressman and Deputy Chair of the Massachusetts Republican State Committee, Peter Blute. Peter spoke at length about the strong chance for Republican gains in the Massachusetts House in November, including the local race for State Representative in the 31st Middlesex District, which is comprised of all of Winchester and, after the recent redistricting, all of Stoneham.

Blute said that the House “Super Majority” has weakened state government by leaving it unbalanced and, in many cases, lacking in the ability to find solutions to state issues and problems that fully represent views from both sides of the aisle.

One glaring illustration of this lack of balance was the vote of Winchester’s current representative, Jason Lewis, who joined the extreme minority of his party in voting against EBT reform—a reform not only strongly supported by Republicans, but also by many Democrats and Independents in the Commonwealth. Blute noted how Senator Scott Brown had been very effective at meeting the needs of such a large number of his constituents by working with an independent voice in a bi-partisan manner in Washington.

George Georgountzos, candidate for State Representative in the 31st Middlesex District to unseat the Democrat incumbent Jason Lewis, also spoke at the meeting and discussed his campaign, including some of the issues he believed were most critical to voters and that he fully supported. One of these was the same type of “balance” mentioned by Blute, as well as fiscal accountability and job growth, EBT reform, Voter ID, and fair funding for MA Chapter 70 education funds.

George has been meeting with potential voters and attending events in both district towns. He noted that his website, www.GeorgeForStateRep.com, has been getting strong traffic and feedback.

Membership in the WRTC has been expanded to now include associate memberships. Anyone interested in joining the committee can contact Carmen Kenrich, Chairperson, at 781-721-0733, or email ckenrich@yahoo.com
