Republican Congressional Candidates: War Chest Balances?

Jeff Semon and Frank Addivinola face off in Sept. 6's primary for the right to challenge Democratic Congressman Ed Markey. Here's how their campaign finances look.

Jeff Semon is ahead of fellow Republican Frank Addivinola when it comes to fundraising in the Massachusetts 5th Congressional District race, but both have a long way to go before they match the fundraising prowess of 35-year Democratic Incumbent Ed Markey.

According to the Federal Election Commission, from April 1, 2011, through June 30, 2012, Semon raised $21,086 in contributions and took out no loans.

Meanwhile, Addivinola raised $6,810 in contributions between Jan. 1 and June 30 of this year, and took out $8,870 in loans.

Both candidates are in the black on their financial sheets. Semon has spent $17,772 on operating his campaign, while Addivinola has spent $1,200 on operating his campaign and $5,634 in loan repayments.

Markey far outpaces both his potential oppoonents, with $800,813 raised between Jan. 1 last year and June 30 of this year. Of that amount, $439,050 are itemized individual contributions and $355,228 come from other committee contributions, such as political action committees.

The incumbent has spent $734,428 in that same time frame, with $410,896 going toward operating expenditures and $318,331 in other disbursements, such as donations to associations, charitable contributions and contributions to other political candidates.

Below are the itemized individual contributions for Semon and Addivinola and the operating expenditures for each, as taken from the Federal Election Commission's website. Markey's campaign finance reports are also available through the FEC website.

CM is absolutely right! If Patch took the time & space in this article to show an itemized list of where money came from for Jeff Semon & Frank Addivinola, why didn't it take the SAME time & space to show the SAME ITEMIZED list for Ed Markey? Was it just because it was over $800,000 and would have taken up so much more space? FAIR IS FAIR. If you show this info. for ANY of the candidates, you should show it for ALL of them. Markey has NOT represented the views of thousands of people in his distrist in many of the last THIRTY-PLUS YEARS he's been in Washington. Now these people have an opportunity to choose someone to vote for who CAN represent them. Voters NEED to hear WHERE ALL THESE CANDIDATES STAND AND WHAT THEY WILL DO REGARDING the CRITICAL ISSUES FACING our county such as the lack of JOBS, the abysmal ECONOMY, the unsustainable NATIONAL DEBT, HEALTH CARE reform, and the SECURITY of our COUNTRY & ITS CITIZENS--to name just a few. I look forward to reading an article in Patch on THAT!

Ed Markey is the poster child for big business and PAC's. His report reads like the who's who of the very industries he is on committees to regulate. And the money they pay him buys his influence. Just look at the soaring cable bills and the migration to those curly light bulbs that are filled with environmentally unfriendly mercury!!!! And then look at Ed Markey's donor list

It will be interesting to see if the Patch will "play FAIR" and publish MARKEY's list.

Ditto all the Above. Unbelievable. No listing of Markey's contributors??

For the record and to alleviate any doubts which could still exist, I solemnly declare that I have not contributed to Markey's campaign.
