State Sen. Katherine Clark officially kicked off her campaign for Congress in front of a crowd of supporters at Memorial Hall in Melrose Saturday morning.

Clark, who represents Winchester, was joined on stage by Attorney General Martha Coakley and Mayor Robert Dolan.

The Melrose resident and first-term state senator declared her intention to run last February, but the rally in Melrose was the first official campaign event of the season.

Clark told supporters she would not "stand by and watch the extremist Republicans in Congress attack a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions  instead of focusing on the issues that matter to our families and our communities: creating jobs, addressing climate change, investing in education, keeping our promises to our seniors and veterans, and stopping the epidemic of gun violence in this country."
