The Winchester Board of Selectmen recently announced two new recreational opportunities for residents to take advantage advantage of, according to a press statement posted on the town website.

Effective July 4, residents can use the new track at Manchester Field, and they can also access a new trail opening at the North Reservoir at the Middlesex Fells Reservation, according to the statement.

New Track

In the statement, Town Manager Richard Howard discussed the recently completed track.

"The track will be open for use but we ask that people stay off the field area until the fall. This will give the grass time to become established," he said. "The track and field improvements are the culmination of years of public/private collaboration which has resulted in a state of the art recreational facility."

Residents can now use the trail opening near North Reservoir at the Fells, according to Howard.

"By vote of the Board of Selectmen on June 17, 2013, an interim plan is now in place to allow for walking and hiking activities as well as for dogs on leashes," said Howard in the statement. "No bicycle or motorized activity or horse riding is allowed and other regulations (absolutely no access to the water areas by animals or humans and animal waste and litter along the trail must be removed) will be enforced in accordance with existing regulations.

"The designated trail area can be found by going to www.winchester.us and will be marked with signage. The hours of use will be according to existing regulation (dawn to dusk) for Fells Reservation access."

From now through November, walkers and hikers will have trail access during the trial period which will be followed up by a review by the Selectmen, according to the statement.
