Winchester Loses Town Manager Candidate

Swampscott Town Administrator, Andrew Maylor, will soon become North Andover Town Manager.

Swampscott Town Manager was North Andover selectmen's unanimous choice to be their new town manager.

"I'm excited," Maylor said in an interview Monday night about the challenge of managing the Merrimack Valley town.

Once he finalizes an agreement with the town he will give Swampscott 60 days notice, as is required in his contract.

North Andover's two finalists -- Maylor and Belmont Town Manager Thomas Younger -- were also both in the running for the .

According to Winchester selectmen chair, Forrest Fontana, the candidates will be invited to Winchester Oct. 25, 26, and 27 where staff and residents can speak with the three remaining candidates -- Andrew R. Bisignani (Saugus Town Manager), Richard C. Howard (Malden Mayor) and Thomas G. Younger (Belmont Town Administrator)

The chairman of the Swampscott Board of Selectmen, Matt Strauss, applauded North Andover's decision.

"I'm extremely happy for him," Strauss said.

North Andover Selectman Tracy Watson called Maylor and offered him the job Monday night, and he accepted. Now negotiations begin.

The decision between Maylor and Belmont Town Manager Thomas Younger was extremely difficult, North Andover selectmen said.

"Up to two hours ago it was deadlocked," Selectman Don Stewart said after the announcement. "It was a very fine line."
