Winchester Parent to Run for School Committee Seat

Cynthia Bohne wants an opportunity to give back to Winchester.

A parent of two students has pulled out papers to run for the School Committee, becoming the second candidate to show interest in running for the committee's two open seats in this year's elections, the Town Clerk's Office confirmed Wednesday.

Cynthia Bohne, who has lived in Winchester for a number of years, said that she wants to help give back to the community.

"It's such a great time and there's a lot going on in Winchester," said Bohne, whose three children went to the l. "It's a real exciting time in Winchester right now. With two kids in school, it' the most important investment I've made. It's a great town, I've been here a while and I want to give back."

Bohne said that with a new Vinson-Owen, the potential renovation of and redistricting, there's a lot going on in the district. And it's something she wants to be a part of.

Bohne has been a Town Meeting member for the last few years, a member of the Educational Facility, Planning and Building Committee (EFPBC) for the last four years, co-chair of the Vinson-Owen PTO, a member of the redistricting team and has served on the Town Manager Search Advisory Committee last year.

The seats occupied by committee Chair Chris Linskey and member Sarah Girotti are up for reelection in 2012. Linskey has already submitted his nomination papers, the Town Clerk's office said.

According to Girotti, she is not seeking re-election at this time, as she will be looking forward to spending more time with her newly expanded family. She said she hopes to continue to be of service to the town and the students in the future.

But Bohne is just excited for the opportunity to help the town.

"I don't know why more people don't run, I really don't" said the Berkshire Drive resident. "It's great work and you get to have a meaningful impact on a great community."

Bohne said she's also looking forward to hearing from residents about what they appreciate the most and what they hope to see evolve in the school buildings and programs.

Friday, Feb. 3 is the last day for candidates to obtain nomination papers and Tuesday, Feb. 7 is the final day to submit them. Town elections will be held on Tuesday, March 27.
