Winchester Selectman Not Seeking Re-Election

After six years, Roger Berman will not run for the Board of Selectmen this spring.

After six years on the Board of Selectmen, Roger Berman has decided not to run for re-election.

“I want to thank the town and the board for the kindness they’ve shown,” said Berman, who also served on the Finance Committee for seven years before becoming a selectman. "I'm grateful I had the opportunity to serve on the board."

Berman said that while he was proud of what the board accomplished over the last few years – timely audits, closing old capital accounts, maintain the town’s AAA rating, hire a new town manager and continue flood mitigation – he said there is still work the board needs to do.

“There are a number of things that we haven’t achieved,” Berman said. “Whoever sits on the board will need to get a new pilot program with the hospital, we don’t have an HR director and we haven’t made great progress with affordable housing.”

But Berman did say that he’s proud to see the upgrades at the Wedgemere Train Station as well as seeing an increase in restaurants in the town.

“It was great to serve with you on the board,” said Selectman Thomas Howley. “The amount of time and ability you brought to the board, and the engagement you had with the community; we were much better to have you here.”
