Winchester Home of the Week: 21 Warren St.

This beautiful colonial is a rare opportunity to purchase new construction in "The Flats."

New construction in "The Flats." Yes, you read that right. A master builder has recently erected a beautiful four bedroom home on Warren St. that is now ready and waiting for its first fortunate owner. The new title holders of this fabulous property will enjoy luxurious accommodations with state-of-the-art accessories that were skillfully designed right down to the last detail. Throughout each room, layers of rich architectural enhancements are revealed from large items, such as built-ins and five fireplaces to smaller but no less significant complements, such as moldings, coffered ceilings and wainscoting.

The interior boasts 4,400 square feet of living space shared among nine spacious rooms and two levels. The first floor consists of an elegant 14 x 15 square foot fireplaced living room and a 15 x 17 square foot fireplaced formal dining area. The 14 x 16 square foot eat-in kitchen is a culinary masterpiece supplied with premier ingredients that include upgraded cabinetry, granite surfaces, a Thermador Pro Style stainless steel appliance package, an elongated center island/breakfast bar and a large casual seating area with a fireplace. The 18 x 19 square foot fireplaced family room will quickly become a favored congregating space in this home while the 10 x 13 square foot study provides a more private, intimate setting.

The second level hosts four well-appointed bedrooms suites with private baths, with an 18 x 21 square foot fireplaced master suite with custom shelving and three additional bedrooms at 14 x 16, 13 x 17 and 15 x 16 square feet.

Conveniences and amenities were also widely included in this splendid property which include three-zoned heat and central air conditioning systems, security system, central vacuum, a walk-up attic, full basement, attached three-car garage and energy efficient windows and insulators.

The charming farmer's porch, exterior architecture and copper barrel roof are a fitting introduction to what may lie inside this stunning new home and once inside, prospective homebuyers' expectations will be surpassed in every way. The accompanying pictures help as a preamble, but a personal tour is recommended to truly absorb this home's magnificent comforts.

Left unsaid in this puff piece is that this "new construction in the Flats" and the new one adjacent to it were made possible by the fact that the builder demolished a historic 1910 home that typified what makes the Flats so special. Unfortunately, these two cookie cutter McMansions and others like them are helping bring a speedy end to what makes the Flats and much of the rest of our town special in their composition of unique historic homes. The beautiful home this builder needlessly destroyed is lost forever and in its place are two ridiculously enormous houses out of character with the rest of the neighborhood. This, I fear, is what the Winchester of our future will look like.
