Food Security and Food Access
The evening will focus on how the food-access system works in the Greater Boston area, problems in the system, and some grassroots solutions, including learning to grow food in unorthodox locations. Panelists will look at how communities become more self-reliant and free themselves from economic forces outside of their control.
Jennifer Obadia, coordinator for the Boston Collaborative for Food and Fitness, will give an overview of food security in the US, details about food access issues in the Boston area, and strategies being used to address limited food access locally.
Cathy Neal, the founding director of Bountiful Brookline, will describe the organization’s programs in helping vulnerable sections of the town’s population become more food secure through community gardens.
