Safe Routes to School Program

McCall Middle School in partnership with Safe Routes to School will be joining schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk/Roll to School Day on October 6, 2010.

The event will begin at 7:15A with students moving from the Winchester Common around the corner to Main Street.  They will travel up Main Street and cross over Mystic Valley Parkway to the school grounds and in the main entrances before 7:45 start time.  They will be accompanied by a small group of parents and their safety will be ensured by the Winchester Police Department.

In the U.S., International Walk to School Day is expected to include 5,000 schools from all 50 states.  Walkers from the U.S. will join children and adults in 40 countries around the world.

Walk to School events work to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment and building connections between families, schools and the broader community.
