Stone Giants: Discussion on Ancient Maya

This lecture will provide the audience with an introduction to the ancient Maya world.  Through the telling of three stories of Maya rulers, this talk will give an introduction to the ancient Maya's religion, political system and cultural practices.  The speaker, Jared Katz, is a double major in archaeology and history and is currently a senior at Lafayette College.  Jared lived in a tent in the middle of the Peten rainforest in Guatemala for several months while excavating two Maya sites. In the spring of his sophomore year, Jaren received a research grant for international study, which allowed him to travel throughout Mexico and Belize in order to study monumental stone carvings.

This program is free and open to the public.  Coffee and cookies will be available at 10:00 a.m.  This program is presented by the Education Committee of the Winchester Seniors Association and is supported by a grant from the John and Mary Murphy Educational Foundation.
