McCall Middle School Has a New Principal

Former Beverly Assistant Principal, Jorge Goncalves, was named the new principal at McCall Middle School.

And on Saturday, McAlduff announced the hiring of Jorge Goncalves, as the new principal of

“Goncalves brings a passion and dedication for middle level education,” McAlduff said. “He is a team player and is admired by staff, students and colleagues.”

Goncalves has been a middle school educator for the past 13 years. For the last seven years he has been an Assistant Principal at the Briscoe Middle School in Beverly, MA. Prior to working at Beverly, Goncalves taught middle school English and ELL at the Fuller Middle School in Framingham.

“[Goncalves] also brings a very strong work ethic,” McAlduff said. “Mr. Goncalves’ appointment will be effective July 1, 2011. I know you will join me in welcoming Mr. Goncalves to the McCall Middle School community.”

Last year, principals () and Evander French () announced their retirement, while Lisa McManus () and Dr. Stephen Goodwin Jr. () have taken similar positions in other school districts.

Goncalves will begin in his new role on July 1.

Marotta was an Assistant Principal at McCall for six years before accepting the interim position.

"This [was] an opportunity for me to continue the fine work we've done here," Marotta said. "We have a terrific staff and well-trained, committed students."

Marotta didn't initially apply for the vacant position. The search committee had narrowed the finalists down to three when McAlduff decided not to hire a long-term employee and asked Marotta if he could fill in the year.

McAlduff also wanted to thank and commend the Search Advisory Committee for their “thoughtful, energetic, and insightful participation in the search process. Each member’s commitment of time and expertise served the school community well.”

The SAC was made up of staff members Diana Deering, Jeannine Lavoie, John McGeehan, Vijaya Sunderam and Ken Tully, Rhonda Cohen, Kate Scanlon and Linda Stapp; and parents, Jean Batty, Paula Michienzi, Jill Pylkkanen and Genny Soper.
