Lynch parents have the option to transfer their children to another school within the district. Parents will not need to make a decision on school choice until December 22, according to Assistant Superintendent Richard Robbat.

Parents will have a chance to view the district’s action plan for the school, scheduled to be released Dec. 13 at the next School Committee meeting, before they make a decision.

“We have an interested from some parents to change schools,” Robbat said. “They expressed an interest in doing this.

According to Robbat, who’s filling in for Superintendent William McAlduff, while he recovers from surgery, the parents will make their choice by Dec. 22. McAlduff will then inform parents of his decision in the beginning of January, after the break. And on January 9, any student who signed up for School Choice will begin attending their new school.

However, Robbat said that any parent who chooses to change schools may not get their first choice.

“There are a lot of variables,” Robbat said. “What schools parents request, the enrollment of those classes. We’ll have to determine the extent to which we can accommodate the parents.”

When asked if all students that participate in School Choice will be allowed the opportunity to change schools, even if it’s not their first choice, Robbat said that it will depend on certain factors.

“I can’t respond to that question right now,” he said. “The Superintendent will have to determine class size. We’ll know more after the holiday break.”
