Winchester High School Graduates

The class of 2011 graduated this Sunday, June 5 at 2pm.

Caps were flying last Sunday as the WHS Class of 2011 made their way across the podium and finished their journey through the halls of

The ceremony was held in the gym, with hundreds of Winchester natives there to cheer on their graduate.

Principal Thomas Gwin hosted the procession and had one distinct message for the students, “keep giving back.” Principal Gwin reminded the graduates that this is only the beginning and to maintain this feeling of accomplishment and excellence will take determination and continual self-improvement.

Superintendent, William McAlduff congratulated the teens, “your success individually and as a class makes the whole town proud.”

Jeffery Chen, President of the National Honor Society, then took to the podium and gave a speech dedicated to those joining the military and reminisced on WHS Class of 2011's past, favorite teachers and favorites moments, repeating the phrase, “attitude equals altitude” to urge graduates to continue to pursue their dreams.

Other speakers included Robert Pontrelli, President of the Student Council, who singled out specific students achievements like Samuel Stratton's amazing 2800 on the SATS. Kate Wendell, the Senior Class President, gave a funny speech about coming together as a class to celebrate the end of the year and several important sports victories before moving on.

The faculty address was given by history teacher, Christopher Marques, who paralleled his beginning at WHS back in 2007 with Class of 2011's. Marques spoke on how he and Class of 2011 matured together and thanked them for the strong bond he felt between teacher and student.

After that, the caps flew, cheers filled the gym, then Class of 2011 filed out in celebration, walking out of WHS and into their futures.
