Winchester High School to Compete in Quiz Show

The WGBH quiz show will have 91 high school academic teams competing against one another.

On Oct. 30, , along with 91 public high school academic teams, from across Massachusetts will gather at WGBH in Brighton for a chance to qualify to compete on season three of High School Quiz Show. Hosted by Billy Costa, the Emmy-Award winning fast-paced game show showcases teens from across the Commonwealth and celebrates academic achievement.

“This year, all public high schools in Massachusetts were eligible to participate in “Super Sunday,” and we’re extremely pleased that so many new schools signed on.” said executive producer Hillary Wells, adding “The excitement and level of competition is building.”

On “Super Sunday,” each academic team of four students will take a quiz of 100 questions to qualify to compete on the show. All tests will take place at WGBH Studios in Brighton. From the 91 schools, only 16 teams will advance and appear on the televised show, which premieres Feb. 12, 2012.

The weekly series will begin taping at the WGBH studios in January in front of a live studio audience. High School Quiz Show features a single-elimination bracketed academic tournament that includes eight qualifying matches, quarterfinals, semifinals and a state championship match.

High School Quiz Show is endorsed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Questions are aligned with the core Massachusetts high school curriculum, including literature, history, science, and math, along with current events and general knowledge.
