Winchester School District Considered One of the Best in the State

Boston Magazine ranked Winchester 20th out of 135 school districts.

In Boston Magazine's annual ranking of public schools in the region featured in the September 2011 issue, the Winchester Public School district comes in at 20 out of 135 districts.

Last year, the magazine ranked high schools specifically and ranked Winchester High School 25th.

According the Boston Magazine's website, to compile the rankings, magazine staffers compared test scores from elementary, middle, and high schools in 135 districts, then compared to past scores to determine whether the scores were improving or not.

Magazine staffers also took into account the number of AP classes offered at the high school, the availability of freshmen sports, pre-kindergarten programs and other factors in compiling the rankings.
