Work on Winchester High Additions/Renovations Now Officially Underway

Local and state officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday.

Construction on Winchester High School’s additions/renovations has officially begun.

Local and state officials held a groundbreaking ceremony at the school Tuesday.

According to the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), the project consists of three additions to the current school, which was built in 1971. The additions will house a dining common, music suite, expanded media center and office space. The renovations include replacing the school’s roof and windows, as well as upgrading the current electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems.

The MSBA is funding roughly 43 percent of the project, or up to about $44 million.

State Treasurer Steven Grossman, the chairman of the MSBA, and Jack McCarthy, the authority’s executive director, were on hand at the groundbreaking.
