"I’m disappointed that I will not be the head football coach at Winchester HS going forward. I’m very appreciative of the support I’ve received from my players and their parents, and want to thank them and my coaching staff I’m proud of the accomplishments we had both on and off the field during my tenure in Winchester.

“I’m especially proud to see so many of my players continuing to play in some of the best colleges in New England. They are great examples of what we tried to build in our program.

“I hope to have the opportunity in the future to coach again and build another program like we did in Winchester.

Former Northeastern defensive coordinator,

Dembrowski has spent the last 19 years coaching college, and while he was the head coach at UMASS Lowell, Winchester will be his first time coaching at the high school level.

“My biggest challenge will be setting expectations,” Dembrowski said at the time of his hire. “We want our kids to achieve our goals and in high school you don’t have student-athletes as long, so we need to be sure to build year after year. We want to ensure that our team improves week after week culminating on Thanksgiving with the Woburn game.”

One of the criticisms of Sobolewski was his failure to unite the community. Both Winchester Athletic Director Brian Carroll and Dembrowski said that ensuring there will be communication throughout the levels—Pop Warner, middle school and high school—would be a top priority.

“We’re going to unite the community under this program,” Carroll said. “It’s been difficult the last few years and we’ve had some different factions, but to bring in someone of this caliber, it will help bring unity to the program.”
