LTA Baseball Team Finished up Their Season

The Sachems allowed only one hit, but still ended up losing to Arlington 1-0.

The Lou Tompkins All-Star League (LTA) played their final game of their month long season that lasted from the third week in June until Thursday night. Despite the soggy field, the Arlington club headed over to Skillings Field behind the high school to play Winchester.

It was a small ball game, with only a few hits to go around between both teams. Winchester somehow managed to throw a one-hitter, but still lost by a score of 1-0.

"We weren't hitting the way we normally do, but it was a clean game," said Sachem coach Michael Creame. "We pitched well and fielded well. There was really excellent pitching on both sides tonight."

Fans were also in agreement with Creame, speaking with one of the on-lookers: "There wasn't a lot of energy out there tonight, maybe because it was the last game of the season."

It could have been the heat, but both teams were a little lethargic out there last night.

This is a surprise however, as the LTA as Coach Creame stated, " isthe most competitive league" for up-and-coming baseball prospects age 15-16. Creame further commented on what the league offers young players. "It's development for the next level of ball whether that's varsity as a senior or [the] Babe Ruth [League]."

As for the rest of the LTA, Senior Division Tournament of Champions began on Tuesday August 3 with the semifinals and finals taking place at Crowe Field, Maynard on Saturday and Sunday August 7 and 8.

The A, B and C Division American League Trophy Weekend will be Saturday and Sunday August 7 and 8. A Division Trophy Weekend will be played in Belmont and the B and C Division Trophy Weekends will be played in Framingham on Saturday and Finals on Sunday in Westford.

Winchester has had a tough time all season, finishing the season at 8-10-1. Brookline, Acton Boxboro, Parkway and Sudbury lead the pack, each with a 15-3-0 record. All four teams still have to play their final games.
