Freshman pitcher Rachel Smith picked up her first high school win on Thursday, striking out nine as the Winchester High softball team beat Stoneham, 5-3.

After Stoneham shortstop Gia Raczkowski smacked a two-run homer over the right-field fence in the first inning, the softball team looked poised for a win over Middlesex League rival .

But, the Sachems had other plans in mind, as freshman pitcher, Rachel Smith settled down and picked up her first win of the season as the Sachems defeated the Spartans, 5-3.

Up next for the Sachems is a Monday morning game against Lexington at home at 10 a.m.
