PHOTO GALLERY: Winchester Weathers Late Goal That Wasn't

Offsides whistle negates last minute Wilmington goal, seals 1-0 win.

The Winchester High boys' soccer team is heading to the playoffs, but they're not quite ready to celebrate yet.

Following a 1-0 victory over host Wilmington on Monday, the Sachems improved to 8-1-1 on the year and sealed their spot in the postseason. But the locals have bigger goals than just getting in. They want to make a deep run.

Wilmington allowed an early goal as Zach Samson poured home a pass from Conor Calnan to give the Sachems a 1-0 lead.

The score remained the same until the final 30 seconds when the Wildcats appeared to tie things up with a desperation tally into the upper lefthand corner of the goal.

But referees ruled the play offsides, and the game ended without another serious threat.
