Red Sox to Hold Baseball Camp in Winchester

The Red Sox will be in town from July 16 - 20.

Pitchers and catchers aren't scheduled to report in Florida until Sunday, but it's never too early to start talking about the baseball season.

And this summer Winchester could see some Red Sox players visiting town.

The Sox recently announced the schedule for their second annual Red Sox Baseball Summer Camps that will begin in late June. One of those weeks, from July 16-20, the Red Sox Camp will be held at Winchester High School.

“We feel this is an excellent opportunity to help the youth in the greater Boston area to learn and play the game we all love,” said Boston Red Sox President Larry Lucchino in a press release.

Boston Red Sox Camps will provide area youth between the ages of 5 and 13 with on-field instruction and games beginning June 25.

According to the release, during the one-week camp sessions participants will have access and privileges, including player visits and autographs, an all-access VIP tour of Fenway Park, an official Red Sox uniform, time with Wally the Green Monster, a closing awards ceremony and on-field recognition prior to a Boston Red Sox home game during Boston Red Sox Camp Family Reunion Night.

Participants in the camp could also meet a current Red Sox player. Past camp appearances have included Dustin Pedroia, Jacoby Ellsbury, Daniel Bard or Jed Lowrie.

In addition, Boston Red Sox Camps and New Balance will create a scholarship program that will send a significant number of underprivileged youth to the camps throughout the summer, the release said.
