Just before the half, Tanner, who put a number of shots on net throughout the game, hit the post on what would’ve been a go-ahead goal.

Tanner also connected with Gilgun for Woburn’s first goal near the end of the first quarter, which answered two early Winchester goals.

Samek had his first goal about three minutes into the second quarter to put Winchester up 3-1.

Winchester goalie Alex Sharp had five saves in the game, including four in the second half, while teammates Danny Donovan and Peter Troiano led the defense.

Woburn’s defense was led by Shaun Delany and Michael Tedesco.

Woburn returns to action at 10 a.m. Saturday at home against non-league Haverhill (4-9). Winchester faces Lexington (11-4) at 4 p.m. Thursday at home in a game that could decide the Middlesex League title. Winchester lost 7-3 at Lexington earlier this season.
