But Kate Wendell scored three of her five goals in the second half and Winchester pulled away for the win.

"I thought Kate Wendell did a great job,” Winchester coach Suzanne Ontso said. “She has been coming through all year. She’s a senior. She’s the smartest player we have on the field — literally and figuratively — she’s off to Stanford in the fall.”

Boys lacrosse: The sixth-seeded Sachems (14-6) were on both sides of a 6-5 score, in triple-overtime in the first round and then losing to of the MIAA Division 2 East tournament.

Jesse Samek scored the winner against No. 22 Bishop Feehan on an assist from Brandon Kelley. Alex Sharp (12 saves) and defensemen Peter Troiano and Danny Donovan helped keep the visitors off the board in overtime until the offense came through.

Kelley scored three goals against No. 3 Hingham, including the tying goal three minutes into the fourth quarter, but the Harbormen scored the winner with 1:44 left.

“We were lucky," Hingham coach John Todd said. "They are one of the best coached teams in the state. They came in with a great game plan, stuck to it, and took advantage of our mistakes.”

Hingham had beaten Winchester 14-6 in the regular season, but the Sachems caught fire and finished the season with 11 wins in 13 games.
