VIDEO: Winchester Lax Beats Reading in OT

The Winchester High boys lacrosse team beat Reading, 6-5, in overtime on Friday.

Heading into Friday's Middlesex League showdown with visiting , the Reading High boys lacrosse team suffered just one loss on the season.

But with the score tied, 5-5, after four quarters, it would take an extra frame to decide the final outcome, where Sachem sophomore captain Chris O'Connell slipped a shot past Reading goalie Matt Comerford for the win.

"Winchester is a great club and we think we're a good club," said head coach Charlie Hardy. "It was two good clubs fighting it out like heavyweight champions. I think we could have won in the fourth quarter and the overtime as well as they could."

"I don't think we played our A game," added Hardy. "but I think it was a sloppy game for both teams, a lot of missed passes and a lot of dropped balls. The scoring opportunities we had, we should have had 10 goals, not five. But that's the quality of kids Winchester has."

With the loss, Reading sits at 9-2 overall and is tied for first in the Middlesex League with Lexington at 4-1 while Winchester improved to 6-4 and 3-1 in the league.
