Winchester Soccer Hands Lexington First Regular Season Loss Since '07

Winchester defeated the Minutemen 2-0 Monday at McCall Middle School.

It was bound to happen at some point, but that didn’t make Tuesday’s loss any easier for the boys’ soccer team. The 2-0 defeat at the hands of Middlesex League foe was the Minutemen’s first regular-season setback since 2007.

After having gone more than three years without tasting defeat before late October, Minutemen coach Dan Rudolph certainly wasn’t pleased with the loss. It was the first time this year that Lexington was held scoreless.

“There are a lot of good teams in the league,” Rudolph said from following the loss to the Sachems. “I think Winchester is a really good team. We get to seem them again, so that’s good.”

Against Winchester, Rudolph said the Minutemen got down early and couldn’t recovery. It didn’t help when the team tried to increase the pressure late in the game and gave up a crucial insurance score.
