Winchester To Raise Money For Soccer Star

Winchester will be holding its Second Match for Milan.

Life changed forever for Milan Moosavizadeh in May of 2010, when the young Soccer star

There were no defibirillators at the field and Moosavizadeh went nearly five minutes without oxygen. He was placed on life support over the summer and has since been taken off of it and returned home.

Although he has defied dire medical odds, he still faces an uphill battle on his daily road toward recovery.

A , Winchester rallied to help Milan with a Match for Milan.

What began as a soccer game exploded into an outpouring of goodwill -- from a $10,000 gift given by the Stephen R. Baum Foundation, to the Constant Law and the Winchester Cooperative Bank, to the hundreds of tickets, donations and auction bids. When all was said and done, they were able to raise over $40,000 and bought an adaptive van for Milan's family.

"It's amazing to see how this kid can touch so many people," said Winchester High School Assistant coach and alumni Ernie Drougas.

As much progress as Milan has made -- every day remains a challenge. So the team is back with Match for Milan II.

There will be two back-to-back games featuring the WHS girls varsity soccer team and alumni as well as the 2011 Middlesex League Champion WHS boys varsity soccer team and alumni.

Match for Milan II is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 26 at Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and include admission to both games and to the reception at the Sons of Italy Club that evening.

Admission for all players is free, and all participants will receive a "Match for Milan" shirt. See any of the girls or boys varsity soccer captains to purchase tickets.
