Winchester Wrestling Pins Burlington

The Sachems dominated Burlington.

Wednesday night, the defeated Burlington by a score of 57 to 5 at . The Sachems again demonstrated strength across the lineup, winning nine matches by pin, one by decision, and losing only one weight class.  

As recently as 2009, the Winchester vs. Burlington match was one of the most anticipated dual meets of the year, a contest between top-ranked teams likely to battle for the state championship. Since then, Winchester wrestling has continued its winning ways, while Burlington’s team has fallen on hard times.

For the second year in a row, the Sachems dominated Burlington in their dual meet match-up.

The most exciting match of the night was Quinn Gregory’s victory over Burlington’s Steve Giampapa. Gregory scored with a takedown in the first period, scoring what proved to be the only points in the match, as he held on to win 2-0.

Joe Fallon came out blazing in the first period against Burlington’s Luke Nigro and briefly held a 5-2 lead. Fallon continued to be aggressive in the second and third rounds, but Nigro repeatedly scored back points to win by a technical fall, providing Burlington’s only points of the dual meet.

The remaining nine matches were won by Winchester wrestlers via the pin.  

Jordan Darby, Nick Stern, Steve Spry, Joe D’Amico, Shadi Abujoub, Dan Fallon, Ryan Kelley, and Tristan Hardy all pinned their opponents in the first round.

Captain Cam Horsey pitched in with a second round pin. In addition, there were no contests in three weight classes in which Burlington did not have a wrestler to put out on the mat.

On Saturday, Winchester will travel to Wilmington for the Sons of Italy Tournament, followed by a dual meet at Reading High School at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22, and a quad meet in Billerica at 10 a.m. on Christmas Eve.
