Holiday High Tea to Benefit Live Learn Act

Live Learn Act is thankful for the support of many donors, sponsors and friends who gave generously and attended its second annual High Holiday Tea at the Winchester Country Club on Sunday, Dec. 2.

Maura Fredey of Carole Kitchen and Bath, generously donated her time, endless energy and resources to the holiday tea. Maura is not only a local business owner, but also a children’s book illustrator. She collaborated with her aunt and author, Alice Fredey, to publish And the Mockingbird Sang, a children's book about giving and collaboration.

Children at the tea were treated to a reading by the author, who traveled from Florida to attend the event. The book’s theme about teamwork was reinforced by a quilting activity for the children, carefully prepared and overseen by local quilter Jane Norberg. The children drew pictures on quilting squares, which will be assembled and sent to the Ambrose and Vinson Owen Learning Centers in India, where they will bring happiness and a daily reminder to the students of their global relationship.

Speaker Julia de la Torre, executive director of Primary Source, underscored the importance of a global perspective for families and children of all ages. She artfully and passionately shared ways to inspire children to learn about, connect with and give back to cultures spanning the globe.

The backdrop to the contributions made by these amazing women was festive and cheerful. Live Learn Act is  thankful for the music provided by Hornography and the Winchester High School Octets, a delicious menu served by the Winchester Country Club, and the many raffle items donated to the event. In closing Live Learn Act would like to thank following businesses and individuals who contributed to the event:
