Don't beat yourself up for working. Most parents do. And parent's do know what's happening. They just feel powerless to change it because were not connected in one place like the school is. Maybe we should get connected. If you want the really big picture of public school in Mass. log onto Visions, Inc.

As a parent, I thought it was my job to nurture, create core values and develop self-respect in my child. I am in awe of the many, many parents who remain silent for fear of retaliation, while the social system we call "public school" shapes and molds our children's value system. And what does it mean when teachers say, "Now, there are a lot of adults who don't want you to know this, but we think it's important?"

I agree. I am very concerned that the public school system in recent years has moved away from teaching academics and more focused on pushing a social agenda that may not necessarily agree with what we teach at home. I don't think most people realize that the public school system has changed a lot since we were in public school and because most parents are busy with work and other things, they don't realize what is happening. I am guilty of that as well, but trying to become informed. We need to be diligent as parents. I don't want the school parenting my children.
