Originally when Lincoln Elementary School was first built back in 1903 it housed Winchester's high school students.More After that, it was converted to the middle school, but now the building is home to elementary students ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade. Because it was originally the town's high school, Lincoln has a number of facilities that other elementary schools lack. There are separate art and music rooms, a full-sized gymnasium, along with a student dining hall and an auditorium. The school environment is one that supports risk-takers, while encouraging students to be actively involved in learning. Along with the regular school programs, Lincoln has the services of a school psychologist/counselor, resource room personnel, reading specialist and a speech and language specialist.

The Vinson-Owen school is named after the famous figure skating family that died in a 1961 plane crash as they travelledMore to the world championships in Prague. The school believes in following principles of respect, responsibility and reason in order to reach its educational goals. Teachers at the school work with Harvard's Project Zero to develop a curriculum based on the state standards, but also to teach students basic skills and a deeper level of understanding of the curriculum. The school relies on a very active community to help support various school programs, a school newsletter, enrichment programs, a mentor program and room mothers, along with numerous donations to the school.
