Americans across the country are reacting with shock to the devastation caused by a 2-mile wide Tornado in Oklahoma. Dozens have died, and President Obama has declared the path of the tornado a major disaster area. If you would like to help, you can do so from your computer or mobile device right now. Patch will be posting stories of locals who are working to help victims from afar. The arrests came after Winchester Police obtained a search warrant for an Everett residence, as officers searched the premises for a laptop computer stolen from a Winchester business.
A pair of Everett men and an Everett woman have been arraigned on several drug and gun charges, including possession of a gun that was reported stolen from a Chelsea District Court evidence locker in November 2011, according to a press statement from Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan's office. Liban Ali, 21, Jeffrey Sanon, 30, and Malensky Oscar, 21, all of Everett, were arraigned in Malden District Court on charges of possession of a high-capacity firearm (three counts each), possession of a high-capacity magazine (three counts each), unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, trafficking in cocaine over 36 grams, conspiracy to violate the drug law and receiving stolen property. Pat Conaway admits he is "kind of a nut" about the environment, so when he retired from teaching in 2008, it didn't take long for him to find a number of productive ways to spend his time. "I wanted to get people fired up about the environment, to try to encourage citizens to get involved locally," said Conaway, founder of Big Hearts, Little Feet. A nearly constant presence on area roadways, trails and waterways, Conaway can be found leading groups of volunteers, including many students, to pick up trash, improve trails and remove invasive species. Winchester native and MBTA Officer Richard Donohue Jr., who was injured in a shoot out with the Boston Marathon bombers talks about that night, his injuries and his recovery.
Winchester native and MBTA Police Officer Richard Donohue Jr. who was injured in a shoot-out night with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects, continues to recover from his injuries. Last Friday the 33-year-old officer was moved from Mount Auburn Hospital to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, according to Boston.com. According to that story his recovery has entered the second phase and he will now concentrate on building strength in his legs so he can prepare to go home. During the shoot-out in Watertown, Donohue was struck in the leg and the bullet tore femoral artery, causing massive blood loss. The bullet is still in his leg. MBTA Officer Richard Donahue was shot and lay wounded in the driveway of RMHS teacher Dr. Jeffrey Ryan days after the Boston Marathon bombings.
RMHS teacher Dr. Jeffrey Ryan lives at the corner of Laurel Street and Dexter Avenue in Watertown, a neighborhood that he considered safe until the evening of April 18. That Thursday night, Ryan was enjoying school vacation and watching Django Unchained. He went to bed early after what he said was a normal day, only to be awakened a couple of hours later by the sound of gunshots. He had always believed that his neighborhood in East Watertown was "very safe" until the night of April 18. Before that night, the biggest problem he faced was intoxicated teenagers setting off fireworks. When he heard what he thought was gunshots, he hoped they were fireworks.
