On Thursday August 16, 2012 The Chocolate Truffle hosted an Art in August event featuring local artist Wendy Jo New Metal Designs. The weather cleared for a well attended beautiful night of art, chocolate and cupcakes. I am thankful for having the opportunity to work with the very talented Wendy at this cross promotional event and I appreciate the support of local artists and patrons who came to the store. Events like this are important to bring the community and businesses together to help strengthen us both through the mutual support. Wendy’s work is still on display at The Chocolate Truffle/Boston Cupcake Girl’s window on Thompson Street. Sincerely, Erin Calvo-Bacci The Chocolate Truffle

Artist and artisan showcase the link between imagination and finished product.
Mad About Shoe, the shoe and accessory boutique on Thompson Street, hosted the last of the Art in August receptions in a blaze of color and design. The acrylic paintings of Glen Victor Doyle, and the jewelry and hand-painted silk of Nina Lapchyk adorned the venue. Amid the high fashion collection of shoes and handbags visitors viewed Glen Victor Doyle's iconic renderings of classic shoes. "I was researching artists from around the world on the internet and came across a a Danish painter of shoes and a Russian who paints shoes he culls form his imagination," Doyle said. "It got me to thinking about the art and craft of shoes and what they represent beyond the practical." Turning to his own observations of women's shoes Doyle found himself …

The second in a series of three Art in August receptions with artists draws supporters to venues.
Downtown was buzzing with artists and their most recent creations as art lovers came out to lend their support and admiration. The art on display ranged from the elegant and decorative to the whimsical and humorous. At Century 21, Denise Konicek presented several quilts that resonated with color, texture and patterns. "I've been sewing since I was in grade school," said Konicek. "It was one of my activities in the local 4H Club." Koniek explained that she was inspired to take up fabric art when her sister-in-law introduced her to antique Amish quilts. She began to sew for world class quilting clubs doing repairs. Before long she was making quilts. "I became restless with traditional patterns," Konicek recalled. "I'd go to fabric suppliers …

Art gets personal when artists speak about their work.
With Winchester center transformed this month into a virtual art gallery residents find themselves surrounded by displays of fine art and artisan crafts. This visual palette of color, image and design takes on more meaning when the artists emerge from their studios and talk with visitors to the exhibits. In the first of three consecutive Thursdays Coldwell Banker and Winchester Wine and Spirits hosted receptions where artists were on hand to discuss their creative process from inspiration to final product.Their faces lit up as they spoke of their on-going love for their craft. Kristen Fitzgerald and Sue Clark could be found in the limited but cozy space of Coldwell Banker's front office. Fitzgerald displayed a range of clear-eyed …

And thank you, Erin, for hosting me and my work this month and opening up your store for this year's Art Walk event. As was obvious by the crowds for the full 2-hour event, it was a hit--as were the delicious little truffles and cupcakes you and your gracious staff, Linda, let the attendees sample. Thanks again, Wendy Jo New (Wendy Jo New Metal Designs)   more ›
