Winchester Resident Recalls First Beanpot
Sherman "Whip" Saltmarsh recorded an assist in the first tournament 60 years ago.
For over half a century Sherman “Whip” Saltmarsh has been in the stands cheering on his Boston College Eagles. And on Monday night, Saltmarsh will be there again, supporting his alma mater, as the Eagles’ hockey team takes the ice against Boston University. The Eagles will be attempting to win their 17th Beanpot hockey tournament. The tournament, which is celebrating its 60th year this season, pits four Boston-area hockey teams – Boston University, Boston College, Harvard University and Northeastern University – against one another in a round-robin tournament.
