Obituary: Philip J. Stackpole

Services for Philip Stackpole will be held from the Costello Funeral Home on Friday Nov. 2 at 9 a.m.

Philip Jackson Stackpole, 80, of Wakefield, formerly of Watertown and a 30-year resident of Winchester, passed away Oct. 27, 2012. Husband of Alice V. (Conlin). Born, raised and educated in Watertown, he was the son of the late Philip J. and Alberta (Ross) Stackpole Sr. A three-sport athlete (baseball, basketball and football) at Watertown High with the class of 1950, Mr. Stackpole received the Hoyt Thurber award as the best athlete in his class was a three-time inductee to the Watertown Hall of Fame. As an athletic standout, he was offered many different scholarships for all three sports. He accepted a basketball scholarship to Boston University, where he was a multi-sports star. He moved on to a baseball scholarship at Brandeis …

PHOTOS: Winchester Honors Glen Doherty

Winchester residents showed their support for Glen Doherty, who was one of the four Americans killed in the Libya attacks on Sept. 11.

The Winchester community showed its support for one of its own today as people lined the streets from Costello Funeral Home to St. Eulalia's Church, where retired Navy SEAL Glen Doherty was honored by friends and family. Residents were dressed in patriotic attire, waving flags and holding passionate signs as their hearts went out to the 42-year-old's family, who mourned their loss. Doherty was killed on Sept. 11 while he was working for a private security company guarding U.S. Ambassador to Libya John Christopher Stevens, who was also killed along with two other Americans at the American consulate in Benghazi. Community To Honor Glen Doherty During Funeral Procession

Winchester residents are encouraged to line the procession route Wednesday to honor Glen Doherty.

The community is asked to support a family who will lay a son and brother to rest Wednesday. The family of Glen Doherty, 42, will hold a funeral mass in St. Eulalia Church at 50 Ridge St. at 11 a.m. Wednesday. While the family wants to keep the procession intimate with only family, the community can honor Doherty by lining the streets along the procession route from Costello Funeral Home to the church starting at 10:30 a.m. Winchester native and former Navy SEAL Doherty was among the four Americans killed while serving U.S. Ambassador of Libya John Christopher Stevens at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi Tuesday, Sept. 11. Funeral Set for Glen Doherty

Services will be held in Glen Doherty's hometown church Tuesday and Wednesday.

Funeral arrangements are set for Winchester native Glen Anthony Doherty who was killed in the Libya attacks last week. Family and friends are invited to gather in St. Eulalia Church at 50 Ridge St. from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. in the church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Doherty's memory to be made online to the Navy SEAL foundation or the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.
