Coldest Air of the Winter, With Wind Chills to Zero, Moving In

The coldest air of the winter is moving in on Wednesday, but expected to move out by the weekend.

The coldest air of the winter to date—by far—is moving in to Hamilton and Wenham on Wednesday. Windchills are expected to be close to zero on Wednesday morning and possibly below zero on Thursday morning, which will be the coldest day since last February. The National Weather Service said that Wednesday night's low temperature in Medford would be around 6 degrees with wind chill values as low as -2. On Thursday, the high should reach near 25, but the wind chill will make it feel as cold as -2 during the day. The windchill temperature on Wednesday morning will be near 0, according to WHDH Chief Meteorlogist Pete Bouchard in his most recent blog, because of "a steady (not strong) breeze." Quadrantid Meteor Shower 2013 Peak: When to Watch

The first meteor shower of 2013 begins Tuesday over the skies of Winchester.

The Quadrantid meteor shower is named for an extinct constellation, but the shooting stars that seem to sprout from it still arrive yearly, and the opening of the 2013 show will begin overnight Jan. 1 into Jan. 2. The Quadrantids is one of the lesser-known meteor showers of the year, but that doesn't mean it's anything less than spectacular. Roads Getting Slick, Forecast Worsens for Winchester

Storm is making a stronger push to the north and west.

What had been forecast to be a moderate winter storm for Winchester and the Greater Boston area is beginning to pickup momentum and could wind up packing a pretty good wallop. The latest forecast from the National Weather Service is now calling for Winchester and the surrounding area to get 4-8 inches of snow. Snow is expected to continue through the night and a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until Sunday at 7 a.m. Visibility on the roads is limited and fog is expected to roll in around midnight to 2 a.m. making it worse. The low temperature tonight will be around 28 degrees. There will also be steady north winds overnight around 17 mph.
